Four-Year-Old Drowns At Community Clubhouse Pool In Georgia

Child's Drowning Death Occurred At Park 83 Apartments In Roswell, GA

A social gathering held at the complex's community pool on the first weekend of April in 2022 resulted in the tragic drowning of a 4-year-old boy.

A group of individuals that included close family members of the victim was present on the premises and enjoying the facilities, mainly the clubhouse next to the pool. However, at one point, the family members noticed that they had not seen the young victim for some time. Soon after, he was found unresponsive in the pool.

It is not clear how long the boy was under the surface or how many individuals were in the pool at the time, however, it's possible that low-light conditions could have prevented the boy from being rescued sooner.

It was not long after 8 PM that the unconscious boy was pulled from the pool and emergency services were contacted. Upon their arrival at 100 Calibre Creek Parkway, first responders attempted life-saving measures and transported the boy to a local hospital. Tragically, he was later pronounced deceased.

Roswell PD Investigates

The Roswell Police Department is still investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic death; accordingly, few details have been released. The police department did make a point of stressing the importance of precautions with young children and bodies of water, seeing as how drowning is the leading cause of death among those younger than 14.

The Park 83 Apartment Complex is relatively new, so it's possible that security cameras are present on the premises. Yet, officials have not provided any further details regarding the existence of footage that could explain how the young boy got into the pool.

Drowning In Apartment Complex Pools

Different states have different laws when it comes to securing community pools or lakes. As a result, when someone drowns at a community pool, the specific circumstances surrounding the accident will determine who have can be held liable.

In many cases, apartment complexes are required to place barriers around a pool. Such barriers often take the shape of metal fences with locked gates that allow access to those with keys. However, if these barriers fail in some way and individuals suffer injuries or death, it's possible that victims or surviving family members can hold the property owner liable.

The laws surrounding community pool drowning accidents can be incredibly complex but this does not mean that it's impossible for victims to achieve justice. With the help of an experienced drowning attorney, victims can file a legal claim against those whose negligence led to tragedy. Compensation will be completely dependent on the facts of each case, but in many instances, it is based on direct damages such as medical expenses as well as indirect damages such as pain & suffering and loss of consortium.
