Airbnb & Vacation Rental Pool Hazards
Short-term rental pools frequently escape the safety oversight applied to hotels — putting guests, especially children, at risk.
Why rentals are riskier
Vacation rentals may lack required fencing, compliant drains, alarms, or any safety information at all. Guests arrive unfamiliar with the property, often with children, and assume the pool is safe.
Common hazards
- No isolation fencing or working gate latches
- Missing or broken anti-entrapment drain covers
- No depth markings or safety equipment
- No disclosure of known hazards
Who can be liable
Hosts, property owners, and sometimes property managers may bear responsibility for an unsafe rental pool. Platform terms do not automatically eliminate an owner’s duty of care. If a rental-pool tragedy has struck your family, we can help you understand your rights.
