Anti-Entrapment Drain Covers
A single drain cover can be the difference between a safe pool and a deadly one.
What they do
Anti-entrapment drain covers are engineered so a swimmer’s body cannot seal against the drain, preventing the suction that causes entrapment, evisceration, and drowning. They are required by the federal VGB Act for public pools and spas.
Signs of a problem
- Cracked, loose, or missing covers
- Flat covers that allow a tight seal
- Old covers that predate current standards
- A single main drain with no backup system
If entrapment has occurred
