The Virginia Graeme Baker Pool & Spa Safety Act is the federal law requiring anti-entrapment drain covers and safety systems.
What it requires
Named for a child who died of suction entrapment, the VGB Act requires public pools and spas to use compliant anti-entrapment drain covers and, for certain single-drain pools, a backup safety system.
Who it protects
It protects swimmers — especially children — from the suction-entrapment hazard that can trap and kill in seconds.
